Osteopathy

Giunta Sergio Osteopath

Giunta Sergio | Ostheopath in Brussels RSCA | de LorgueOsteopathy is a naturopathic approach to detecting, treating and preventing mobility limitations in any part of the human body.

Any loss of mobility in the joints, muscles, ligaments or connective tissue can lead to an imbalance in a person’s state of health. Osteopathy is based on in-depth anatomical knowledge.

An osteopath will conduct a hands-on examination to investigate, interpret and determine the current needs of the body’s structure and systems, to treat any dysfunctions and to restore impaired function.

A damaged lung, for instance, can no longer efficiently regulate the body’s oxygen supply. An osteopath does not see articulation simply as two bones surrounded by cartilage working and moving together. The term “articulation” can refer to all tissues of the body which move relative to any other tissue with which they come into contact. Osteopathy therefore aims to restore movement.

Pain can be misleading.

Pain is like a warning signal lighting up in the body, letting us know something is wrong. However, the actual location of the pain is not necessarily an indication that the problem lies in that area. It is not enough to only look at symptoms.

Osteopathy’s unique strength is that it understands and encompasses the fact that the body’s structure may influence its functions remotely as well as locally.

It also sees the human body as a whole, one that functions thanks to a multitude of interrelated operations. As well as the organs, joints, skeleton, nerves and hormones, we must also consider the mind; only then do we have a full picture of the human body as a unique and coherent entity. The osteopath therefore looks at the bigger picture, rather than just narrowly focusing on symptoms, in order to get to the source of a problem.

Your osteopathic consultation will involve 3 things:

  • Questions: You will be asked about your medical and personal history.
  • Observation: The osteopath will observe your posture and movement.
  • Examination: The osteopath will conduct a hands-on examination which will help to detect any dysfunctions or physical limitations.

Osteopathy for every stage of life.

An osteopath will choose the most appropriate and comfortable technique for each patient, depending on their age, their body and the area of the body requiring attention.

They can treat babies, children, adults and senior citizens.

  • For example: both knees and stomachs can lose their mobility, but as they are formed of different tissue, the treatment they require will call for different techniques.

Prevention is better than cure…

Emotional or physical trauma, which has happened in the past or perhaps even occurred unnoticed, can continue to have painful repercussions even many years later.
